David Dotson is a long time resident of Monroe, a proud Marine Corps veteran, and a career law enforcement officer with over 25 years of service.
David has served as a member of the Planning Board and Airport Commission.
He currently serves on the Monroe City Council, where he’s known for his conservative leadership. His campaign for Mayor is driven by the same values that have guided his life — faith, family, hard work, and service to community.

David is running for Mayor because he believes Monroe’s best days are still ahead. His goal is to preserve the character of our hometown, ensure responsible growth, push for fiscal responsibility, and support families through policies rooted in conservative values.

He served in the United States Marine Corps, where he learned discipline and dedication to a cause greater than himself. Afterward, he dedicated over 25 years to law enforcement, balancing third-shift duty, family, and education while earning his degree in Criminal Justice from UNC Charlotte.David served as member of the Planning Board and the Airport Commission before being elected to City Council.
On the Planning Board, David pushed for common sense changes that would increase public input and reduce the density of residential developments.
On the City Council, David’s record shows a clear pattern of fiscal responsibility, transparency, and conservative decision-making. -

As Chairman of the Public Safety Committee, he spoke in favor of, and voted for, a position statement that affirmed that Monroe is not and will never be a sanctuary city.
He voted against the most recent budget because it raised property taxes on citizens already burdened by county-wide revaluation increases.
He has fought to keep spending low, reduce administrative costs, and oppose unnecessary travel budgets for the Council.
He has protected free speech, opposing efforts to restrict public comment or limit citizen involvement.
